  • Membership Highlight: Dr. Dwayne More

I have been a member of Sigma since 1990, joining the organization in my junior year of my BSN program.

I joined Sigma due to the professional contacts, the access to scholarly articles, and the general camaraderie found among professionals.

Being a member of the Alpha Delta chapter has allowed me to take a leadership role in an organization and by participating in the events sponsored by the chapter, give back to the local community.

For those who wish to be more involved with the chapter, begin by attending meetings.  Ask what you can do to benefit the chapter and to increase our member activity in the organization.  After all, we are only as active as our individual members wish to be.

Sigma is a great organization, and our chapter will grow and thrive with the individual contributions our members are willing to provide.  Our meetings are once a month and last no longer than an hour.  We plan on providing more scholarly offerings that will hopefully provide CEUs (CNEs) for those in attendance!

    1. How long have you been a member of Sigma International (formerly STTI)?

I have been a member of Sigma International since 2008.

    2. Why did you decide to join Sigma?

I joined Sigma as it is the preeminent nursing organization and as an academic nurse, it’s my responsibility to be involved in this type of organization. Additionally, since I was not eligible for membership as an undergraduate, becoming a member was also a challenge and goal that I had to achieve.

    3. How has being a member of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Sigma benefitted you professionally?

Membership in the ΑΔ chapter has helped me in several ways. First of all, it has helped me build a “huge” list of internal and external fellow academic nurse contacts and potential research collaborators. More recently, membership in this chapter has helped me acclimate to UTMB as many faculty are also members.

    4. What is your advice to other Alpha Delta Chapter members who might be considering becoming more involved in the Chapter?

DO IT! The ongoing success and the future of the chapter is founded on the participation of its members.
